Climate Cycles and Trends

Canada’s climate system is driven by complex interactions between the earth’s atmosphere, land surfaces, oceans and frozen regions. In this section, you can learn more about Canada’s climate cycle and trends, including the causes and impacts of climate change and how Environment Canada’s climate research is being used to model future scenarios and develop adaptation strategies.

To see how our climate is changing, you can visit the Climate Trends and Variations Bulletin, which puts temperature and precipitation readings for the most recent season and year into historical perspective.

You can also see the effects of shrinking glaciers and earlier snowmelt on the availability of freshwater by taking a look at some of the water data that is collected daily, from Canada’s rivers, lakes and streams.
