Calculation of Reactor Opening Losses from Polyvinyl Chloride Plants
- C-3.1 Scope
- C-3.2 Calculation of Reactor Opening Loss
C-3.1 Scope
The calculation to compute the emissions of vinyl chloride resulting from reactor opening losses is described.
C-3.2 Calculation of Reactor Opening Loss
The emission rate of vinyl chloride resulting from a reactor opening shall be calculated using equation C-3-1.
(C-3-1)
where
- ERvc/pvc = mass emission rate of vinyl chloride per production of polyvinyl chloride, kg VC per 100 kg PVC
- Cb = concentration of vinyl chloride in sample, ppm
- Vr = reactor volume, m3
- W = total weight of polyvinyl chloride resin produced since last opening, 100 kg
- 2.56 × 10-6 = conversion factor, ppm vinyl chloride to kg/m3 at 25°C and 1 atm
