Export of Substances Under the Rotterdam Convention Regulations (SOR/2002-317)

The regulations will permit Canada to implement the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade. The main purpose of the regulations is to ensure that chemicals and pesticides subject to the PIC procedure are not exported to parties to the Convention, unless the importing Party has provided its "prior informed consent" to the shipment. Canada has also undertaken to ensure that Canadian exporters respect any conditions imposed on the importation of these substances.
