Recording Surface Weather Observation on Form 63-2322 for stations using the NAV CANADA Human Weather Observation System

Note (1): This bulletin applies only to weather stations using the NAV CANADA (NC) Human Weather Observation System (HWOS) and completing data entries on the Surface Weather Record Form 63-2322.
Note (2): This bulletin applies to the Manual of Surface Weather Observations (MANOBS) Seventh edition, Amendment 18, sections 10.2.1, 10.2.2, 10.2.3, 10.2.4, 10.2.5, 10.2.8, 10.2.11, 10.2.18, 10.2.21, 10.4.14, 10.4.15, 10.4.16, 10.4.17, 10.4.18, 10.4.19, 10.4.20, 10.4.21, 12.3.6, 12.3.7, 12.4.8, 16.3.9
Effective March 1, 2014, the following changes will apply to stations using the NC HWOS and completing the Surface Weather Record Form 63-2322, as per MANOBS Seventh edition, Amendment 18.
The following sections of MANOBS no longer require data entries on form 63-2322 by observers using the NC HWOS:
- 10.2.1 Column 23 – corrected wet bulb
- 10.2.2 Column 24 – relative humidity
- 10.2.3 Column 25 – total opacity
- 10.2.11 Column 33 – sea level pressure
- 10.2.21 Column 42a – additional data group
- 10.4.14 Line 15 – sum
- 10.4.15 Line 16 – mean
- 10.4.16 Line 17 – attached thermometer
- 10.4.17 Line 18 – barometer as read
- 10.4.18 Line 19 – total correction
- 10.4.19 Line 20 – station pressure
- 10.4.20 Line 21 – reduction to sea level
- 10.4.21 Line 22 – sea level pressure
- 12.3.6 Group 3P0P0P0P0 – station pressure
- 12.3.7 Group 4PPPP – sea level pressure
- 12.4.8 Group 6RRRtR – amount of precipitation
Changes to instruction for the entry of data on form 63-2322 for stations using the NC HWOS:
- 10.2.4 Column 26 – total amount – Completed in eighths.
- 10.2.5 Column 27 – type – Not Required for Hourly (SA) but designate for Special (SP) or Check (C) observation.
- 10.2.8 Column 30 – sky condition – Will be completed as per the METAR requirements as outlined in MANOBS Section 16.3.9, Sky condition.
- 10.2.18 Column 40 – clouds and/or obscuring phenomena – Shall be completed with Type and Amount entered in eighths.
