- Frost
The term frost is used to describe water vapour which changes directly into a solid -- without becoming a liquid -- when it touches an object, such as a window pane. For this to happen, the temperature of the window pane must be lower than the surrounding air, which itself must be below 0°C. A killing frost is severe enough to end the growing season.
