Wood Preservation: Pollution Prevention Planning

As part of consultations with stakeholders, Environment Canada has collected and assessed comments on the Proposed Notice Requiring the Preparation and Implementation of Pollution Prevention Plans in Respect of Inorganic Arsenic Compounds, Hexavalent Chromium Compounds, Polychlorinated Dibenzodioxins, Polychlorinated Dibenzofurans and/or Hexachlorobenzene used by Wood Preservation Facilities that was published in Part I of the Canada Gazette on May 14, 2005. The Proposed Notice and comments received provided the framework for the preparation of a draft Final Notice.

Attached for your information is the Draft Final Notice as well as a document entitled Revisions and Response to Comments that presents the revisions made to the Proposed Notice as well as Environment Canada's response to comments received.

Note that the draft Final Notice and the information contained in the Revisions and Response to Comments document are still subject to change pending final approval. Once final approval of the Final Notice is received, the Notice will be published in Part I of the Canada Gazette. Publication is expected in autumn 2005.
