Three Mutton Bay Residents Fined $7,600
HARRINGTON HARBOUR, Que. -- May 6, 2011 -- In February and September 2010, the circuit court in Saint-Augustin found Sidney Green (59), Clifford Morency (58) and Roy Mansbridge (59), of Mutton Bay, Quebec, guilty of illegally taking 161 migratory bird eggs from an area adjacent to the Îles Sainte-Marie Migratory Bird Sanctuary, during the closed season.
Under the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, Mr. Green and Mr. Morency were each fined $2,800, while Mr. Mansbridge received a fine of $2,000.
The three individuals were charged by Environment Canada of violating paragraph 6b) of the Migratory Birds Regulations, which states that no person shall have in his possession a live migratory bird, or a carcass, skin, nest or egg of a migratory bird except under the authority of a permit therefor.
In addition to the fines mentioned above, the three individuals have had their migratory bird hunting privileges revoked for the year following their conviction.
