Environment Canada has developed free teaching material on the topic of weather to address the needs of both elementary and secondary school teachers. Sky Watchers Guide

For those teaching students at the Grade 4 to Grade 7 level, our Sky Watchers Guide to Weather provides unique resources that address the weather-related learning outcomes of the Pan Canadian curriculum.

This user-friendly material explains in simple terms the basics of weather. It's filled with fast facts, activities, and experiments to help you help them.

Project Atmosphere Canada

Project Atmosphere Canada’s Teacher's Guide provides instructional information and activities to support teaching excellence in the atmospheric sciences and related topics in grades K-12 across Canada. The program’s goal is to promote an interest in meteorology amongst young people.

The program is supported by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) www.cmos.ca, and the teacher’s guide contains 14 teaching modules that cover the following topics:

  1. Hazardous Weather  ( Thunderstorms -  Hurricanes  - Winter Storms )
  2. Weather Radar: Detecting Precipitation  
  3. Weather Radar: Detecting Motion
  4. The Coriolis Effect
  5. El Niño: The Atmosphere-Ocean Connection
  6. Air-Sea Interaction
  7. Clouds
  8. Pressure - Highs & Lows
  9. Westerlies and The Jet Streams
  10. Sunlight and Seasons
  11. The Atmosphere Aloft
  12. Water Vapour and The Water Cycle
  13. Weather Satellites
  14. Acid Rain

Project Atmosphere – Canada (PAC) grew from the Project ATMOSPHERE initiative which was first developed by the American Meteorological Society (USA) as a national program.
