Marine weather forecasts: overview

Environment Canada’s marine weather forecasts describe the anticipated weather conditions in Canadian marine environments for the next five days. For the first 48 hours, detailed information related to weather warnings and watches, as well as wave heights, is available, while a more general outlook is provided for the three days thereafter. Wind speed and direction information is also provided for the entire five day period.

To supplement the marine forecasts, two additional products are also provided:

  • Technical synopses, which give an overview of major weather systems affecting the area; and
  • Marine Weather Statements, which describe specific conditions in plain language.

To get these and other up-to-date forecasts for a specific area, go to Environment Canada’s Canada.ca/weather website. Here, you can also access hurricane forecasts for details about tropical storms and hurricanes in a given area.
